WordPress Post Editing Area Explained

in Wordpress

Today I would like to just touch on writing with wordpress, specifically the use of the post editing panel. WordPress.org pretty much explain everything in detail about writing posts on wordpress however I would to dive a little bit deeper on the wordpress in addition to what you find in wordpress.org

Now before I begin i would like to bring your attention to # 15 , clicking this will bring down the  # 1 -14

# 1 -3 Bold, Italic, Strikeout respectively

#4- 5 Bullet point  & numbered list

#6 Blockqoute – its used for qouting sources in a block . eg below

WordPress is an open source blog publishing application powered by PHP and MySQL which can also be used for content management. It has many features including a plugin architecture and a templating system. Used by over 2% of the 10,000 biggest websites, WordPress is the most popular blog software in use today

#7-9 text allignment. I’m sure I dont need to explain this any further

#10- 11 Insert link and unlink respectively. How does work is just simply when you select a text click 10 and you can now insert a link, so this text now becomes a hyperlink, clicking on it will lead to the inserted link’s page, to unlink simply select the text and click unlink.

TIP:you can choose how the link appears, I.e to open in a new window or same page

#12 Insert more tag. This I believe not many first time users will know about. It makes the “Click here to read more” I use this in every single post, for example my homepage which displays all the recent posts, notice not the entire posts is displayed, you would have to click more to get to the full article/post.This to me is  a must use if your posts are lengthy.

#13 – Spellchecker- checks spelling available in  11 languages, by default it would be in english.

#14 – Toggle full screen Mode- You can switch to the full screenmode, i personally write in the fullscreen format,

#15 – Show/hide- Kitchen sink – This brings down the full menu  #1- 14

#1 Paragraph style – Choose heading size and font styles here

#2 Underline – Underline words

#3 Allign full – Self explanatory

#4 Select text color – You can Insert text color using this function

#5-6 paste text from text or Word document  respectively- Some professional bloggers usually write their articles on a word editor software to check grammar spelling etc and export it to wordpress. You can do the same too

#7– remove formatting- As the description you can remove formatting of text

#8-Embed media – clicking on this will bring up a pop up to insert the URL of the media-

TIP: use this to embed videos from youtube

#9 – Insert custom characters- Click and a menu will pop up with a list of all the available custom characters for example  “¢€→♣Λ”

#10 – 11 Indent and Outdent respectively

#12- 13 Undo & Redo

# 13 help- this brings out a simple Help menu

Also take note that sometimes some plugins may add new features in your post editing panel. For example “Hanacode” or “WP polls” plugin  so just be reminded of that.

Well I guess thats all for this article. I decided to write this because I realize there seem to be a lot of questions in this area typically  #12 and #15

Thanks, I especially liked #14, it’s much easier to write in full screen mode.
